Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island, BC.
The house that Dad bought in March of 1966 was basically a single level
cottage but Dad spent a year and $20,000 to raise the house and put a
basement underneath as well as extend it out the front for a garage and
an extra bedroom on the east side.
This is my 1966 Beetle that I bought in the fall of 1967 after I
returned from Europe.

This is Wendy and Mitzi in front of the parent's house which was
situated on the seashore west of Mill Bay and down the hill from Cobble
Hill.

Dad bought this cabin cruiser around 1968 I believe. It was 26
feet long and had a 6 cyclinder Universal inboard engine in it.
The thing
was too heavy to get up much speed but would make quite a roar if you
opened it up.

This is me paddling my canvas kayak that I had built in the winter of
1957-58 with Dad's help.
Mitzi is on the front. Someone later stole this kayak which I had
left on the beach below the parents' house. The picture was taken
about 1967 I believe.

My friend, Ted that I grew up with in Edmonton, had visited me in
August
of 1966 and, while I had planned on returning to UBC to complete my
forestry course, I got talked into going to Europe with Ted. I
subsequently made the arrangements for tickets on the Empress of Canada
leaving from Montreal on September 6, 1966.
This is me heading off to meet Ted in Vanouver where we got a ride with
an acquaintance of his that was driving a VW Beetle to Ontario.
We rode with him as far as Winnipeg, then had to hop a plane to
Montreal when we started running out of time to get to our ship in
Montreal.
